water conservation

So gardening by the yard featured a potential solution (at least partially) for folks who are experiencing massive summer water bills. It involved a system of water collection barrels at the gutters. It was so smart. Some folks had one barrel, but you could really link as many of these in a sort of series as you want. When they fill, a simple bypass method can be used. Now what was really amazing about this is that a half an inch of rain yields either 200 or 400 gallons (on an average sized roof). This not only conserves water for when you really need it, saves money, saves fresh drinkable water, but it also relieves a tremendous strain on the sewer system. Larry, I really thought of you in particular on this.

is that sarcasm? No the barrels or containers are a fixture next to the gutter spouts. They have a spigot. You can have 2 barrels and then a flow through. It's a very good idea, and I really cannot see why you wouldn't do this given the water bills in sweet home. If you use 200-300 barrels of water for your lawn...well that could be an issue eh? Conservation and 300 barrels would hardly go in the same blog. But I wasn't talking about replacing tap water with rainwater completely, just easing the pressure. notice the (at least partially) in there. in fact you could go with something a lot larger than a barrel. A rectangular tank that would fit in the kennel area. It's an untapped resource for you. the structure is there.

And you could have some waterproof painting, decor to make it pretty. A compliment to nature. Stencil some leaves and such. It will give the neighbors something to really talk about for a bit.

yes you are right. You can match the house. You can do any number of things. People wouldn't think twice about hanging a giant antenna or satellite dish off of their house for fear of aesthetic repercussions, or building a giant box to house their cars. No. Not a valid reason not to do this. Any more smarty pants?
