Halo 2: tip of the week: #2

I'll try to condense this:
Terms: FOV-field of view

WEAPONS:
Reload constantly (x button). Never enter a fight without reloading.

battle rifle: Take advantage of the range capabilities. Zoom in and out often keeping your surroundings in mind. Aim for the head, and keep your distance as this gun will give you an advantage at distance. Same goes for the covenant carbine. Defeat the battle rifle by approaching either in a zig zag pattern. Up close, the smg will tear up the guy with the battle rifle. Take advantage of the battle rifle's limited FOV.

Sniper:Same as above, but get somebody to cover you. Pick high points on the map, and move after every few shots. A sniper who uses multiple vantage points is tough to beat. Stay out of the open and communicate with teammates to help pinpoint the sniper. There are some fairly predictable locatioins to snipe from. Bumrush these locations. Keep Moving.

SMG: My weapon of choice for short to medium range 1 on 1 fighting. Master chief is ambidextrous. Always carry this in pairs or with another gun. If you have only one, avoid contact with enemies until you can dual wield. Remember dual wield by holding y when you pass over another weapon. SMG is weak if you only carry one. Again, strafe keeping the reticle on the heads of your opponents. Reload this thing often.

Shotgun: I'm terrible with this, because it's slow, and I strafe which means I miss often. It's a one shot killer if you like to run at the target-aim for the upper chest. Worthless beyond about 2 meters. Defend against it by backing out of its effective range. If you are indoors, back out, leaving grenades behind. The shotgun toter will have to follow in order to kill you, make him/her run a gauntlet. Same approach with defending against the sword.

Needler: I love these things, the pink guns that shoot tracking pink darts. Dual wield, rush in close, unload with both triggers, run. Don't go toe to toe with this one. Pick up more ammo. Repeat. If you can get the drop on somebody, this can be unstoppable. You can replenish ammo often on Beaver Creek.

laser pistol and pistol: worthless.

Missile launcher: Keep moving, and choose shots wisely. Shoot at the opponent's feet. It's nearly impossible to directly hit bad guys with this, but the explosion is more than enough to take multiple kills. Aiming at a vehicle and holding the trigger will now(Halo 2) give you a lock-on. The driver is pretty much toast if you can get a lock. Aiming into enclosures is a lot of fun. Defeat the launcher by backing out of range. Missiles are slow and strafing can make a missile kill nearly impossible. At short to medium range, pray.

Grenades: Don't forget to use them. Sprinkle liberally while battling. More often than not, they will land behind the bad guy who unknowingly will back into them. Grenade kills are hard to get, but they soften your targets handily.

Laser rifle: Weak alone. Used in pairs or supplementing the SMG, the combo gives a great short and medium range carnage kit. Be prepared for the overheat. Like the needler, go in fairly close, let loose, and back out before you are made helpless by the cooldown. This is another good strafing gun, although the shots are slower than those of the SMG.

Seeing what your opponents are carrying and reacting accordingly is probably the second most important strategy in the game. Don't go against people who outgun you, and secondly, get yourself to the position that will best enable your gun. If they carry two SMG's and you carry one, try to find some more equipment, or if you can approach without being detected, go for the bash attack (b button).

That's it for now.
